Focus On Accomplishments
Why will someone hire you? Because you have convinced them they Need You. The best way to do this - in emails, letters resumes or interviews - is to show them how well you have done what they want. Past performance (in job search) is the best predictor of future performance.
Today most everyone who interviews uses the techniques associated with "Behavioral Interviewing". Here the interviewer asks you to give specific examples of what you did in a particular situation. Not what you might do, what you actually did. They are seeking proof of performance. You must be prepared to - not only - include specific accomplishments in your resume, you must be prepared to tell the stories associated with them. Most importantly tell them how you successfully addressed or solved the problem or situation.

You’ve Lost Your Job #3 – Know Yourself
What do you do? What do you do well? What do you do best? What do enjoy most? What do want to do more of? When? Where? These are all questions that everyone should be asking themselves as they prepare for their job search. Each question can have a multitude of responses. Sometimes what you do well - or even best - is simply what you've got the most experience doing. Not necessarily something that you'd choose to over again - and again.
If you haven't taken the time to think about what your future should look like,, how can you expect to convince a hiring manager that you are the best candidate to fill their need? I call this the Career and Self Discovery process. There are any number of career books and online resources with exercises and assessments to help you sort thorough this process. If you want to "wake up and go to fun" in the morning, you'll need to spend some time fully exploring your your interests, likes, skills, knowledge and abilities.
Career and job search assessments, (personality, interests, behavioral /management style, values, career suggestions ) can help you not only better understand yourself, they can also give you incredible insights into how others see you. Armed with these insights, you will be much better prepared to interview and to develop a resume that not only meets the needs of the hiring authority: you'll be better able to help him or her truly understand you and your value.

You’ve Lost Your Job #2 – A Resume Now
OK , It happened and you're now facing the reality of a tight job market and you know you've got to get going. This is when emotion frequently takes precedent over logic. Often when I ask what a client's immediate need is , the response is "A resume." While this is absolutely important, you should remember that a resume is really a marketing document. It should focus on describing not just where you worked and what you did, it should stress those things - those accomplishments, achievements, and successes that set you you apart from the competition. You must show them you have done it and done it well.
Rushing to get a resume out there may seem like the right thing to quickly do, but it could backfire if you have not carefully thought about WHAT THE HIRING MANAGER NEEDS to see to convince him or her that you are the person they want to interview.

You’ve Lost Your Job …
You've Lost Your Job ... Now what?
Today everyone knows someone who has experienced a job loss. In this economy it is not something to be ashamed about. It truly is not about you. There is no such thing today as "Business as usual". The steps you take today and every day going forward will change your life. Whether you approach your new future with the help of a Career and Job Search Coach or go it alone, the most important thing to remember is not to delay the start.
While I can't prove prove it - anecdotal stories - from clients have shown me - and I now firmly believe - that every day you delay adds six days to the job search.
